Italian Indigenous Varieties Grow All Over the U.S.

This past weekend while hosting a seminar on wines made with Vermentino, I felt enormously pleased to be able to present one from Lodi, California thanks to Uvaggio, owned by industry insider Jim Moore who very kindly shipped me his wines. The seminar folks like the wine and were excited to try one from the U.S. as well as the ones from Liguria, Tuscany and Sardinia that I had procured. They also proceeded to inform me that I could have had one from Virginia from Barboursville and one from Maryland, from North Carolina and from Texas. On my way home on United, a read an article written by a colleague all about Vermentino in Texas. It was all new to me and very exciting. One of the things I love about the wine world is how much you learn on a daily basis and how small the world seems at times.
