Today’s Monday Musing is about defining sustainability when it comes to the wine world. I think it’s fair to say there has been a huge increase in the number of producers and regions looking at sustainability and many ways of defining the term and what goes into it. Common themes are no pesticides, protecting flora and fauna in the vineyards, increasing and/or maintaining biodiversity, using recycled paper for labels and packaging, shipping lighter bottles, energy conservation, and.many other uses for materials and natural resources.
Other definitions include helping support the community around the winery and providing economic support and training for families, offering programs to community schools and the like. I’m sure I’m missing something. What goes into the definition for you.
