After a long day of wine tasting, usually I either reach for water, a beer, sparkling wine. Sometimes though, I am in the mood for an Aperol Spritz. When I tried to order one this week at a hotel in Tuscany, the bartender insisted that I try a Spritz using Select and white wine, instead of Aperol. He insisted I need to try this drink which is classic Venetian Spritz created by the Pilla Brothers in 1920.
Select has 17.5% alcohol. It is made from macerated rhubarb roots and juniper berries. It was a great relaxing drink with floral and hay. grass notes and a hint of spicy. It was refreshing and delicious after a long day of tasting. I am so happy to have learned about this historic beverage.
